About NYCSBA

The New York City Superior Basketball Association (NYCSBA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development of youth student-athletes for collegiate-level basketball.

Mission and Focus

The organization's primary objective is to prepare players for competition in Collegiate Division Basketball.  Its programs are designed for athletes starting from age 16 and focus on:

  • Skill Development:  Providing top-tier training and skill-building sessions to refine players' technical abilities.

  • Player Exposure:  Creating pathways for high school and college-bound student-athletes to advance their careers.

Structure and Programs

As a not-for-profit entity, NYCSBA operates through organized training programs and competitive opportunities tailored for serious student-athletes.

Our Philosophy

A student-athlete development program for basketball players should be founded on the following principles:

  • Holistic Development: Recognizing that success extends beyond the court, the program should aim to develop well-rounded individuals who excel academically, athletically, and personally.

  • Emphasis on Education: Academics are paramount. The program should support and encourage student-athletes to prioritize their studies and achieve academic success.

  • Skill Development and Athleticism: While focusing on education, the program should also provide opportunities for players to hone their basketball skills, improve athleticism, and reach their full potential on the court.

  • Character Building and Leadership: The program should foster positive character traits such as responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and leadership, preparing student-athletes for success in all aspects of life.

  • Mental and Emotional Well-being: Recognizing the pressures faced by student-athletes, the program should prioritize mental and emotional health, providing resources and support to help players cope with stress and develop resilience.

  • Life Skills and Career Preparation: Equip student-athletes with valuable life skills, including time management, communication, and adaptability, and assist them in exploring career paths and preparing for life after sports.

Our Vision

The vision for a student-athlete development program is to cultivate an environment where basketball players:

  • Achieve their highest academic potential, preparing them for future academic or professional endeavors.

  • Maximize their athletic abilities and contribute positively to their teams.

  • Develop into responsible, respectful, and effective leaders both on and off the court.

  • Learn to navigate the challenges of being a student-athlete with resilience and a positive mindset.

  • Gain the life skills and experiences necessary to thrive in their post-athletic careers and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Core Values

  • Respect: Treating opponents, teammates, coaches, and officials with respect.

  • Discipline: Maintaining self-control, commitment, and dedication to the team and program goals.

  • Teamwork: Working together unselfishly to achieve a common goal, recognizing that the success of the team is paramount.

  • Effort & Resilience: Giving maximum effort in all aspects of the game and learning to overcome challenges and failures.

  • Accountability: Taking responsibility for one's actions and commitment to the team's success.

  • Academic Excellence: Prioritizing academic success as a crucial component of being a student-athlete.
